Frickin' Love It!

10-12 hours a day in today's corporate world is not they way we were built to live. After 8 years of this, I had enough and decided to move on a good deal for the LifeSpan. Can't say how wonderful it is to walk and actually burn calories and activate muscles rather than continue the rooting into an office chair.

I bought the OfficeStar drafting chair which is adjustable to match the height of the desk and when I want to sit, I just drop a board across the treadmill and put the chair on top. Works great when I want to sit.

Invest in yourself and get one!

Treadmill Desk, power glitch causes it to be 3 stars not 5.

Overall I like using this treadmill desk in my office. It was not too big for my office. It replaced a bookcase that was in my office. Furthermore, I found that it indeed served its intended purpose--to function as a desk and treadmill. I found the item to be quiet enough that it is not annoying or disturbing when I use it. In fact, I was able to engage in a conversation with a colleague while walking on it. Others upon seeing it expressed an interest in wanting one as well but felt the price was beyond their price range. It was definitely pricey. I found putting it together was rather simple and intuitive. The tools needed for the job were provided. It is shipped in two very large boxes that both are very heavy. It definitely requires two strong individuals to get it to the right location in your office. The only concern I have about this machine--hence the 3 not 5 star rating is that when I power it on, it will squeal like a stuck pig. This has happened more times than I care to admit. After power it on and off, the high pitch noise will stop. This power issue affects the computer board and I must play with both the power and the computer board to get it to work right. It is becoming more and more aggravating. I think for a thousand plus dollars, this machine should not have this technical glitch. I have only had it for a month or so and I'm hoping this glitch is just a minor annoyance and not indicative of future issues with this machine. I guess I'm hoping with time it will stop making this noise and adversely impacting the computer board. I hate to think what I will need to do if this issue turns into a material performance failure. Right now it is merely a nonconforming performance issue that impairs the machine from properly functioning. Shipping it back to Utah for repairs would be cost prohibitive and I don't have the time to call the company to see why it is making this noise. All, the same I am still very happy that I bought one and hope to use it for many years.

Using it for over two months now - best purchase ever for my office!

I had been thinking about this for over a year and decided to purchase when the Amazon Deal of the Day was 50% off. Without a doubt, it is the best purchase ever since I've been working (since 1986). I run at my club 4 days per week (approx. 20 - 25 miles) and add an additional 15 miles or so a week on the desk. I spend between two and four hours a day on the treadmill and the rest of the time at a regular desk. I find that I can do computer work easily up to 1,8 mph and with the addition of Dragon Speak software and telephone software (we use Shortel), I can go even faster if I wanted to, but then I have to contend with sweat and I dress nicely to work. On phone meetings, I can usually get up to about 2.3 mph - after that my breathing becomes noticeable or the sound of the treadmill interferes. There are four things that I have noticed have all "sold me":

1. I have lost weight - easily down 10 - 12 pounds with the addition of the treadmill desk to my regimen (and the desk makes me want to run at my club more)
2. I am more productive - when you are working at a treadmill desk, there is not much else to do other than work vs. sitting at a stationary desk where you can daydream, etc.
3. Time flies - on a regular treadmill, I notice the time - every two or three minutes I'm checking; but, on the treadmill desk I'll look down and it'll say 45 minutes has gone by - just unreal.
4. I am sleeping like a baby.

Some pointers:

1. I've learned that on days when I run, I don't do as much on the desk - have to rest those large leg muscles
2. Have plenty of fluids available
3. Good earbuds for music are a good addition if you can work to music
4. YOU MUST integrate this into your work space - I completely got rid of my work desk configuration - if you don't do this, you won't use it. Do this on day 1

Best purchase ever for work, and I'm the envy of my office. The desk is huge - far bigger and far more stable than I ever imagined. And the treadmill is top quality. I purchased the mat to put underneath - good idea.

One-person adjustments are no problem, at least if the desk is empty

Since there are already a lot of great reviews, I'll keep this short:

1. It's as great as everyone says. It's good quality, works great, easy to setup, etc.

2. A lot of the comments talk about how it takes two people to adjust the height - I don't think that's true. I'm able to adjust the height on my own by lifting one side at a time. I can't go up or down more than 1-2 clicks, but it's really no big deal.

3. The instructions talk about needing two people for assembly too. While it would have been nice to have a helper, I managed the whole thing on my own. I'm not a "big and strong" type either - 5'11", haven't lifted weights in years, but I carried everything in the house myself (the treadmill rolls, which is nice).

If you can't get someone to help you, you can still manage.

4. One of the reviewers talks about the fact that you have to wait for the thing to restart, and when it starts it's going slow. It's not a big deal. Takes 10 seconds (max) and you're doing what you were. I find myself stopping every 45 minutes or so to do something (grab a drink, bathroom break, whatever) and it's no big deal.

5. Speaking of drinking, that's by far the hardest thing I do while using the desk treadmill. Typing is easy (a few more typos, but no problem), navigating the web is no big deal, etc. But taking a drink of water or coffee without spilling isn't as easy as I'd like.

Overall, very happy with this purchase. I have officially figured out how to mix work with exercise, and it's fantastic. I don't have to choose between the two any longer.

Good product, but worried about reliability

I've had my treadmill desk for a couple of months. I average about 5 miles a day. It works fine if used at speeds under 2 mph. However, at speeds above 2mph, I experience the 'hiccups' in the belt (when I step on the belt, I feel more friction than expected - a very unnatural and disorienting feeling). The problem is somewhat alleviated when the belt warms up, but it does not go away completely. I've done all the recommended maintenance - including lubricating the belt with LifeSpan brand silicone solution every 40 miles, and it did not help. This issue doesn't bother me too much now, since I don't use the treadmill at high speeds. However, I'm concerned that this problem will get worse as time goes by.
Another annoyance is that the belt sheds little particles quite a bit. They deposit at the end of the belt. Nothing that vacuuming can't take care of though.

This actually works as advertised, both for fitness/health and as a quality machine

I work from home, sitting some 6-8 hours/day, often more. In my mid-50s, I had to do something as my back, posture, and overall health had become increasingly problematic. I tried an Aeron chair, a zero-gravity chair, and finally, a stand-up desk. None worked for more than a couple hours before I felt the same, or new, strains on my body.

Movement, as it turned out, was the only solution. I researched treadmill desks, bought the Lifespan TR1200-DT5, and couldn't be happier. It's transformative, and I don't give superlatives easily. Quite simply, walking works. I log between 2 and 3 hours/day (which is about the max you'll likely do) at about 2.4mph. This is cumulative time, as there are breaks for lunch, bathroom, answering the door, etc, which are mixed in with sitting time. I also use two monitors synched to my laptop with a Splitter Box ($13 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BLZDY6A/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This makes it easy and seamless to switch between sitting at my desk and walking on the treadmill.

The beauty is, you get massive low-impact exercise benefits (supposedly, walking is about the best cardiovascular exercise you can do) without spending any extra time shoehorning a gym visit or other exercise activity into your schedule. I also adapted quickly to coordinating my walking with computer use. As someone else commented, the mouse can be tricky for fine movements, which some people address with a stationary trackball mouse.

As for the LifeSpan TR1200-DT5, all the reviews I read indicated it was tops in design and quality, which is correct. It is heavy, so although I did assemble it myself (I'm 6'1" - 200lbs), an extra pair of arms would come in handy for lifting. Once assembled, it's very solid and the integration of the treadmill with the desk is complete and well thought out. I'd advise getting the complete set like this, versus cobbling together a conventional treadmill with a separately purchased desk.

Because I'm the only one using it, I never adjust it. Which is a good thing, because the manual adjustments aren't meant for frequent changes. If that's important, LifeSpan does make a motorized desk raising option, but it's pricey.

Again, I'm a big fan and advocate of this approach to solve the sitting problem many of us face. It's not often a product hits all the right marks - functionality, usefulness, and quality - so it's refreshing when one does. Highly recommended!

Life changing product for a keyboard junkie

I almost never write reviews (it's hard to find the time) but I wanted to explain how much of a life changer this has been. I work from home and write software which means I sit on my butt for 8-12 hours a day minimum. I tried losing weight the traditional diet way and it worked for some time but I quickly hit a wall and realized that a large part of the problem was my extreme sedentary lifestyle. I also have 4 small boys and was finding it harder and harder to keep up with them already. As I started tracking my steps I found that my lifestyle was only generating 1200 - 1800 steps a day which is deplorable (the average is about 7k, recommended is 10k+) so I decided to try this desk out. I was skeptical that I would be able to maintain my productivity while walking but I am happy to say that the desk is everything it is advertised to be and more. This has literally been a life changing purchase for me as I now average 20k - 30k steps per day and the weight is coming off quicker then I had ever hopped. As an added bonus I find that I am actually MORE productive with my work because I am less inclined to lay back in my chair as I used to and take a break. Overall this is an excellent product and has allowed me to become the active person I always wanted to be.

Pros: Extremely quiet
Seamlessly melts into my routine
Height adjustment to my ideal height makes it much easier to use
Life changing from a health perspective

Cons: Controls could be a bit easier to use (a quick jump to 2,3,4mph or if it remembered my last speed would be great)
Height adjustment is a bit of a pain. I dont share it with anyone so its fine for me but I couldn't imagine changing it for my wife on a consistent basis

Great investment towards your health!

I am a software developer, and work at a desk 8 hours a day, then spend the next 6 hours before bed, surfing the web/playing games, etc. Needless to say, not a very healthy habit.

I've yet to use this while working because my monitor wobbles with each step, which is unavoidable, but coasting at 2mph while surfing the web, throughout the day, without having to head to the gym and back, is great!

I'd give it 5 stars, but the desktop app used to sync your workout data to the cloud is horrible. The Lifespan fitness web portal is horrible (functions of the website doesn't work in Chrome..must use IE). Sometimes the data doesn't sync, and you lose it, although the desktop app says it uploaded the data. If it weren't for the buggy, unreliable workout software, this would be a perfect product.

Such easy assembly

Review by Tee
Hello Lifespan - thank you for making this assembly truly easy as pie. I bought this for myself for Christmas and my husband was dreading helping me assemble it. Especially since the Treadmill doctors on Amazon wanted $250 for assembly. Totally unnecessary expense. Setup was a breeze. If I didn't need someone to help be take the treadmill out of the box and lift the desk onto the stand, I could have done it all by myself. I'm looking forward to doing less sitting in my home office in 2014. I'll be back to review the treadmill desk from actual use but was so excited about setup, I just had to post this review.

Both my husband and I work from home. It's so easy to look up, realize the day is almost over and we never left the house! So we knew we needed to make some changes.

After reading so many positive reviews about this treadmill desk, we decided to make the investment. We did have some challenges with the white glove service, but LifeSpan took care of everything!

Working and walking is much easier than we expected. We're very happy with the product and look forward to getting lots of use out of it.
