When it comes to the TR1200i, very pleased I spent a bit more than that Merit cost in order to get a machine that is noticeably more solid.
I use it daily, intervals of 4.7 mph and 6.2 mph, varying slope. I really like the two user definable routines: 20 intervals in which you select slope, pace for each interval. (So, each interval would be 1 minute, 30 seconds in a 30 minute workout, 2 minutes if you elect some days to go 40 minutes, ...)
Treadmill immediately found my Polar smart bluetooth HR chest strap. Did not have to do a thing. Actually took me several uses to figure out how to get the HR to display on treadmill console. Manual is very basic. (While in use, have to hit Enter key to toggle two displays between HR/Distance and Calories/Steps.)
Spent a fair amount of time with the two HR-based exercise routine choices. Select a minimum HR to maintain for one; the other allows interval training with user setting a low and a high HR rate. Then, for either, pick pace or slope as the variable the treadmill adjusts. Love the idea, particularly for interval, but could never get it to work satisfactorily for me - would seem to never drop back to low HR after high HR was reached. Easier to just watch HR display and make adjustments manually until a consistent pattern established - then program one of the 20-interval user workouts accordingly.
I use the LifeSpan fitness club to keep track of activity. (USB stick allows transfer to my iMac for the TR 1200i; work machine automatically sync's via bluetooth to the same account.) LifeSpan TR 1200i shipped with free membership.
Pace, slope, distance, steps are all accurate. Clock, curiously, always gains 10 seconds in a 30 minute workout. No big deal.

The positive reviews on Lifespan TR 1200i on Amazon and elsewhere on the internet made us purchase this Treadmill and we are pleased to say that the reviews on this fitness equipment on Amazon are honest and it is well worth the money spent.
With Lifespan TR 1200 Folding Treadmill we got a strong running surface with whisper quiet 2.5 hp motor, a sleek, attractive looking easy to read Color LCD console, Dual side handrail with speed and incline controls and a super easy folding system to save space wherever you wish to place this.
You also get a USB key device (Small size 128Mb) which you can insert into the console that tracks and records your information. Along with a free membership to the Lifespan Fitness Club online (A $99 Value), you can use this to track your results over time, get new workout routines and reach your fitness goals faster.
Here are our positive experiences [PROS] with this product:
[+] Very Quiet Operation -The Lifespan TR 1200 treadmill runs extremely quiet even at decent running speeds like 5 miles per hour and still feels solid and shake-free console which is very easy to read.
[+] Intelli-Step Counting feature - With most people's goal is to walk their "5,000 steps a day" to have a healthy body, this is a very helpful tool. Basically, the treadmill works like a pedometer and shows how many steps you've taken during your walking or running routine.
This is an exciting feature that can give you positive feedback from the console to challenge you to go further.
[+] Safety Pause feature - The TR 1200i treadmill has built-in sensor in the belt drive system. It senses and relays that to the console computer on-board when you're no longer stepping on the belt and will automatically stop the treadmill after predefined seconds.
This is a great safety feature to give you some added peace of mind, especially if you have small children in your home who loves to play around the treadmill
[+] Speed and Incline Controls on Arm Bars - We love this feature, especially when you pick up your pace and don't want to reach up to the console which can throw you off balance. However, with this treadmill you can change your speed (Right hand controls) or incline (Left Hand controls) with the touch of an easily accessible buttons on the arm rests instead of reaching up to the console while you are walking or jogging.
[+] Console with Speakers - While this is becoming a fairly standard feature in most treadmills, it's still a nice option to have. In this treadmill you can plug in your iPod or your favorite MP3 player and listen to your workout music through the console speakers.
[+] Free Membership to Lifespan Fitness Club - As mentioned earlier in this review, The Lifespan TR1200 comes with a tiny capacity (128mb) free USB device when plugged into the USB port automatically tracks and stores your workouts. It also holds your personal information (so that don't have to re-enter it when you start up the treadmill every time).
The $99 value membership (Included free with this model from lifespan) to their fitness club will help you by taking into account your preferences and goals. It then sends you weekly exercise routines and even sample videos on how to do certain exercises and work more fitness into your daily routine. The basic idea is to stay accountable and be on track on a daily basis to reach your fitness goals.
[+] Good Warranty on the product from the manufacturer
Frame & Motor: Lifetime
Parts: 3 Years
Labor: 1 Year
This gives you peace of mind and believe me if some manufacturers state this clearly it means that they made effort in making a good equipment and according to our observations, the treadmill is indeed build solid and will last years to come.
[-] Speakers are not of great sounding, Not very bad but not good either :-)
We hope this review is useful for others just like it has been for us here on Amazon user reviews, and we wish that by making a purchase you will meet your fitness goals in life!
Cheers! And may you have a happy healthy life!
Almost Perfect 4.5Review by G. Kepnick

The first issue I had was it should have some leaflet or instructions on how to properly unpack it. It is a big item and quite a few ways to get it out of the box. I am not sure if I did it the easiest way. I ended up cutting away the box around it so that it was just a cardboard pad on floor. Then I lifted the arms/back thing into place and locked it down. Then lifted the belt into the storage position and removed as much cardboard as possible and assembled everything else. This would have been 100x easier with 2 people, but I did not want to wait for help.
The second issue I had is when I raised the bars up I must have pinched the wires. Like the black part peeled away and I could see the wires on the inside. It all seems fine, but that sucks that I had it for a day and now have exposed inner wires. Maybe some sort of cable housing could go on those or they could be pulled to the side when you package it. This one is my fault for not checking before I lifted back into place, but I do not think the wires should have been in that joint. Oh Well. Electrical Tape to the rescue.
Beyond that kink the unit went together well. They put all the screws where they need to go so none are missing, but that means you need to unscrew them first, and then assemble and put the screws back in.
Another issue I have is with the annoying beep. It sounds like a short or something in the speakers. Almost like when a smoke alarm needs a new battery. I would love an option to turn that down or have a more pleasant sound.
The instructions have lots of information, but are pretty bad on the setup as well as getting the features to work. Setting the clock should be in some starting page rather than near the end. Also lubing the belt should have a diagram at least.
It would also be nice if you could get 2 memberships / or a family membership on the LifeSpan Fitness club. Most people who own this will have a couple people using it, but only one person will get to use the software.
Beyond that I am happy with it. It seems well made, has lots of features and seems pretty quiet outside of those terrible beeps when you hit a button.
The walking platform is huge on this. I have not tried running or jogging, but on a walking pace you can really get a long stretch/stride if you like.
I am going to be using it as a "walking desk" so it is nice that it goes from .5-1 in .1 increments.
The included fitness software is actually pretty cool. You put the USB in the treadmill and it logs all of your workout info onto the stick and then you upload it the site and it shows you your progress etc. It worked flawlessly, even with a MAC. Might work w/ linux too as it is web based and runs on Adobe Air.
It is an expensive unit, and when I got it was actually below the 1k so it was eligible to get the 20% savings. At that price I thought it was worth it to move up from a entry level machine and get something that should last.
To sum things up, this thing feels really sturdy. It is not as heavy duty as a gym unit, but it was nicer and sturdier than the ones at my physical therapy office. It is has some great features to help you get more use out of it. There are a few quirks but nothing that should knock off more than a star. I think it is a solid 4.5. I am giving it a 5 to bump up that one ladies irrational 1 star review

So ok, it doesn't come with the usb drive. to be honest, I couldn't care less - the last thing I need is yet another piece of software to track my runs. I just need a quiet, easy to use treadmill that doesn't require a day to set up.
It's quiet. It's easy to use. It's easy to set up (except for the fact that it is HEAVY). It works exactly as advertised. I don't like that it displays mph instead of minutes per mile, but ok, I can live with that - just made myself a little conversion spreadsheet, laminated it, and stuck it up on the wall.
When you adjust the speed, it increases and decreases gradually enough that it doesn't threaten to throw you off. The programs are reasonably easy to understand and set up. The controls are simple and easy to figure out. It doesn't squeak or creak or make random noises, and the motor is quiet enough that I can watch tv at a reasonable volume while running. The height adjustment goes high enough to suit me. Doesn't do negative elevations, but oh well, I can live with that for a thousand bucks. The speakers aren't awesome, but that's ok too - I'm in my house, after all, I don't need yet another set of speakers. It's padded enough that it doesn't beat up my knees and ankles, which means that I can run more miles, which means better quality training for me, but it's not so padded that it's like running on mush. It's easy to adjust the belt, and easy to lube it as needed, and easy to fold it up. Not easy to move - it doesn't exactly roll around - so put it together where you want it to live, and plan on getting help if you have to move it far.
I've been on more expensive treadmills with more programs and more gadgets and stuff, and they're fun. But for a thousand bucks, this is a great buy and will keep my training miles up where they need to be. If I get a few years out if it, I'll have gotten more than my money's worth, and I don't even have to comb my hair to go out to the gym when the weather is bad.
After a couple of months of using this, the plastic housing around the belt began to rattle a bit. Nothing serious, just enough to be slightly annoying. A few rubber washers from Home Depot solved the problem.
I LOVE this treadmill!Review by Book Lover "I love to read"

I absolutely love it already and I am so glad I made the choice to go with this particular treadmill. I did my research for quite a while before I made my decision. Being that it did not have one single negative review on Amazon, helped to seal the deal for me as I know that the people giving these reviews are the ones actually using it and not just some so-called "expert" giving their opinion, but not really using it.
It is very user-friendly, with good sized digital readouts making it so easy. The thing I love the most about it, is that it is so unbelievably quiet! I kept reading that in other people's reviews, but I didn't really think it would be as quiet as it really is! I have it positioned in front of my big screen TV and I didn't even have to turn the volume up to screaming mode to hear it! Last night I worked out on it for an hour and 15 minutes while I watched some of my DVR'd shows and I hardly even noticed that I was working out because it was so quiet and I was absorbed into my TV show. It is just fabulous! I love the magazine/book holder on the dash too, as that has always been my biggest complaints about other treadmills. I love to read while I am working out and this gives me the opportunity to do so without holding on to anything! I also love the i-pod hookup, that is another nice bonus!
I also LOVE the pause feature! On my old treadmill, if I had to stop for any reason, I lost all my settings (time, speed, etc.) and had to start all over. With this one, you just hit the stop button and it pauses right in the middle of your workout... you go do whatever and come back and hit start and it picks right back up on the time you had already completed and goes right back to the speed you were at.
Another great feature is the countdown. When you start the treadmill, it starts "counting down" to let you know it is going to slowly start. It doesn't just catch you off guard and start suddenly! I love that. This treadmill really has it all for a fabulous price!
The one and only complaint I have about it thus far is that it does not turn off on the dash! This is a bit puzzling to me, I have no clue why the engineers would not put the on/off switch on the dash! That is the first time I have ever seen that on a treadmill. You either have to unplug it or turn it off by the switch on the front of the belt down by the floor. Very odd to me. Overall, I highly recommend this treadmill! I do not think you can go wrong with this purchase!
UPDATE: A year and a half later, I still love this treadmill!! If you are like me, you realize that most people review items within days of receiving it and therefore you do not get the review from "tried and true" usage, so I wanted to add my year and a half later update that it is still wonderful and I have not had one single problem from it!! I still highly recommend it!

I ended up not being able to put on the last piece which covers the wiring in the back, not sure but the screws wouldn't go into the holes. I don't think this was my fault this time, must be the holes were not properly drilled through. Anyway, this is purely a cosmetic piece and doesn't affect the functionality.
As for using it, it is pretty straight forward. The display is nice and big, shows all the important metrics. I am not sure how to make it show pace instead of speed since I run based on that as opposed to speed, I'll have to read the manual some more. There are pre-planned programs, but I mostly just like to do my own thing, so that's what I did for the first run. The thing is very quiet, I was very surprised. It is super sturdy, I am of average weight and height for a male (5'10, 155) so I don't foresee it ever breaking down on me due to wear and tear I am hoping. The controls on the handles are a very nice bonus, it is like the really nice treadmills at the gym and allows you to stay more in "the zone" as opposed to trying to reach forward and finding the speed/incline buttons. This way you can run more in the "middle" of the treadmill as opposed to toward the front.
I did a 3 mile run, around 7 speed, and since I'm a heavy sweater, I know I will now need to invest in some heavy duty fans. The speakers were actually not as bad as I thought they would be based on some other reviewers. I couldn't find any volume buttons though, had to use the volume on my iphone, I'll have to read the manual some more. I haven't tried the online club that comes with the treadmill, I am letting my gf use it since she has goals of losing weight whereas I am just doing it to get in shape. It comes with a usb device that will record all your data and let you upload it, from what I hear.
The treadmill folds up very nicely after use, and isn't too heavy on that side; the hydraulic release is a nice touch. All in all, this is a great purchase, and I look forward to running on it, as will my gf.
Very sturdy, well-built
Buttons on the rails are very useful

and he loves it. I've had it a month. I haven't tried the MP3 connections. It has a ledge to place a book to read while walking. I haven't tried to fold it. I have it on carpet with no problem. It cost more than a lot of the others but I didn't want any problems. Oh yes,the deliveryman helped my husband carry it into the room in the house that we wanted it to sit.
