Finally bought it

I've now owned this treadmill for about half a year.

It's a terrific treadmill as long as it is working. It has needed two repairs while still brand new. This leaves me just sort of hoping it will not break down. If you buy this treadmill know that it's fantastic. It's compact, stable and good looking. It probably is the best performer in the price range. What it doesn't have it bells and whistles isn't missed. The most important thing is the performance of the machine itself. So if you buy this please buy an extending warranty. If you buy it from a physical store I think they may have their own warranty plans. The company was great to deal with and responsive when their were problems. It's just when the one year warranty runs out I fear the machine won't keep running. The company itself does not offer an extended warranty on labor and you just kind of have to wonder why.

Love This Treadmill - Great Buy

I was looking at Treadmills for a few weeks doing all kinds of research and decided to take the plunge on this one. The Price was good, the reviews were great across the board, not just here on Amazon.

I received the LifeSpan TR 1200i the day after the 4th of July. It was delivered by an OLD Indian couple in a Ceva van. The guy wheeled it up to my door on a hand cart and helped me guide it inside the front door. He said I had the White Glove Treatment (which I guess means they set the thing up for you and take the remaining packaging away with them) I told him it was fine, I would do it. I didn't pay extra or anything but yeah, I told him No Thanks. He seemed pretty happy about that haha.

It's a pretty large box and definitely heavy. I pushed it across the carpet into another room fairly easily. Set-up was easy and I just took my time with it and I think it took me just over an hour to get it all put together.

I've had the Treadmill for just under two months at the time of my review today and have put roughly 90 miles on it. It still runs exactly today as it did on day 1. The base is sturdy, the arms feel a bit cheap, like plastic but is no bother to me. The left arm has Incline/Decline buttons and the right arm has Speed Up/Speed Down buttons. I love that. The display is pretty basic which is fine by me. It has a nice ledge below the screen that fits an iPad perfectly. However doing that covers the display screen on the Treadmill. I did a little MacGyver action and added a Velcro strip ABOVE the Treadmill display and to the back of my iPad (it's in a case btw). So now I have the Treadmill display in plain sight and the iPad at perfect eye level above it.

Well that's all I have right now. It's a great buy for any casual runner/walker etc.

I think it's fantastic.

I bought this treadmill in Jan. 2012, and I absolutely love it. When it arrived I asked the delivery guys if they would take it across the living room into the back room, and they agreed in exchange for a soda. Small price to pay, though I wish I would have had them lay it all the way down -- they left it on its side. I'm a small woman (5'0", 115 lbs), and when I rolled it over it was heavier than I thought, and nearly fell and landed on my foot. Once I got it open I was able to assemble it myself, but couldn't lift it out/off of of the box & styrofoam packaging and had to recruit help.

I have since moved twice, and while the thing is cumbersome (I had movers), it easily survived and has a permanent home in my new house. No damage to it, so I think it's pretty sturdy. I've had no problems with the treadmill itself. Only two quirks:
1) the USB automatic update to their "fitness club" doesn't work with Chrome, and I must have spent hours uninstalling/installing the software, reading FAQs (it's not mentioned on their troubleshooter), and had to send an e-mail. It took a few days to get a response, but once they told me to use IE it worked fine.
2) I purchased a New Balance heart rate chest strap based on some others' comments about different brands working with this treadmill, but I would say the treadmill only reads it about half the time. I know the chest strap functions, because it came with a watch, but you have to be uncomfortably close to the console for it to pick up the signal accurately. When you drift further back it cuts your heart rate in half, like it's only picking up every other signal, or not at all. If you want the heart rate tracking, it might be worth it to buy their proprietary chest strap -- if it doesn't work maybe they'd give you your money back for it.

Otherwise I think it's amazing -- I run/walk on it probably 3 times/week in the winter, and maybe once a week in the summer.

Excellent Treadmill!

This treadmill is fantastic. It was easy to put together for two people. It took no more than an hour. The treadmill is quiet and it offers good impact absorption. My boyfriend has a bad back and this treadmill does not aggravate it when he jogs. I would say this treadmill gives the larger more expensive treadmills a run for their money. I couldn't be more happy with it. I haven't even used the USB yet and gone online to set up a program, I have been doing my own for the last month. I would defintely suggest this treadmill to anyone. You can't go wrong with the price, how quiet it is, ease of putting together, ability to fold up, the amount of preprogrammed routines, and the USB to have your own health profile and program your own personal routines on your computer. Like I said, it's fantastic.

I purchased this treadmill in April 2011 and am extremely happy with it - definitely well worth the price. I love all of the features that this treadmill has, especially the USB and membership with Interactive Health Partner (a website that you can upload all your workout data to). You can customize the USB with your info and pop it into the treadmill, so the calorie burn can be a little more accurate - the USB automatically keeps track of your time, distance, calories, etc, then you pop it into your computer when you're done and upload the data to the website. Absolutely love that feature - it's so motivating and it makes it much easier to keep track of your progress. One thing I would recommend is to get the chest band heart rate monitor that LifeSpan has (I bought mine directly from the LifeSpan website since Amazon didn't have it)- the heart rate monitor on the handles of the treadmill never registered very well for me and I found it awkward to keep my hands on the handles when jogging/running so that it could register heart rate.

Very Solid Machine

Like many of you, I spent days reading reviews about treadmills trying to decide on the brand. I had not heard of Lifespan before my research, but nothing came up with better reviews than this company. I needed a smaller machine and was tempted to go with the model lower for that reason, but the TR1200i was actually less as it was on sale! I have been using the machine almost every day for a month and I have found it to be very quiet and well built. I am planning on buying the oil for it, however, as it is squeaking already.

I will say that one of the benefits of buying this machine was the membership to the Interactive health club. I have to admit that I am not all that impressed. I was hoping this would be much more motivating, but the programs are hard to understand and don't give specific details regarding the workout. Plus, I assumed the information would be more streamlined off of the memory stick, but it holds this information in a separate part of the site and therefore you have to manually enter it anyway. Maybe I am not smart enough to figure it out correctly! Not a big deal to me, just a bit of a disappointment as I like to chart my progress but gave up within a week. For those that need more motivation, it might be more useful for you.

Overall, I am impressed with the quality.

Stopped working after 4 months

Great treadmill when it works. I use it for 30-40 minutes per day, 3-5 days per week. Yesterday I turned it on and got an error message on the display panel. The belt wouldn't move. The troubleshooting section of the owner's manual wasn't helpful - it didn't mention this particular error code.

I've contacted LifeSpan and will update this review with their response.

UPDATE (12/15/13): LifeSpan emailed repair instructions to me and the treadmill is currently working. I don't fully trust it, but am hoping the breakdown was just a fluke. I've increased my rating from 1 to 4 stars.

A Good Deal!

Many others have given this detailed excellent ratings and I can only 2nd those.
Assembly was a bit of a headache getting some of the screws to fit. Others have
commented on the handles not quite lining up. Now this is actually referenced in
the manual<grin>. It tells you to jiggle it or somesuch. It wasn't really all that big a
deal. Why? Because once you have this machine up and running it is awesome.
VERY quiet. VERY sturdy. Plenty of running deck room. The fold-up option is
a snap and the ladies could do it with ease (no offense intended). It does NOT
come with a Mem Stik but they are so cheap - just buy a 4 or 8 gig cheap stik
as you won't need more - it doesn't seem to store info once it is uploaded to the
web-site. The on-line Fitness Club is good or bad depending on how much you
use it. I like it but mostly I just like to record progress rather than read all the
health literature blah, blah.

In summation: This machine is the BEST treadmill deal on Amazon if you get the
999.99 price. It is the newest model (2013). Smooth functioning with decent extras.
Both Incline and Speed options change seamlessly and the pre-loaded programs
cover about all levels of fitness so Beginners & Pros can use it. Or you can just
hop on it & go. My 1st Treadmill and I am very happy !

The ordering and delivery of this treadmill was very easy, and description did not disappoint. It was very easy to assemble and every bit of 250lbs! Can't imagine if we had to move up or down stairs! It arrived exactly on time and was well packaged (crate and boxes were a challenge to dispose). The length of the belt is long enough for just about any height, the handles are very sturdy but wish it were a tad wider. The controls are simple to operate but entering personal height/weight/age information is clumsy and the online fitness program is worth what you pay for it (free)! The motor is very quiet and the speaker system for your iPod or MP3 is nice and plenty loud enough for workouts (you must buy your own cord to connect). The operation is also smooth enough to read while running or walking. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend to a friend.

Even when it was not great, I still loved it

I will keep this short, as the other reviews are spot on. I was upgraded to the 3000i because they 1200i I ordered was not available, and they wanted me to be happy. This makes for a great review as I love a company that wants the client to love them as much as the product. The treadmill is silent, has a ton of programs, and works perfectly. I have loved using it and all of the features are as advertised. Even the speakers that are built in sound great for audio books while working out. Additionally, since the unit is almost silent (my footfalls are the loudest thing in the room), I don't have to blast the volume. Watching TV is nice now, as the volume is normal, not extra loud like it was with the old treadmill I replaced.

On some versions of this product, people mentioned a shock issue. This is like when you rub your stockinged feet on a rug and then go and touch your sister to shock her. The same thing happens here. Turns out my shoes (brooks) seem to be one of the type that have this insulation issue. After running for a minute, I can get a small shock by touching any of the metal parts. Frankly, it is not painful, but it is annoying. Since I can fix this by changing shoes, or adding a mat to the unit, I don't think that I blame the company for this, but I wanted to at least post that it can occur. The bad is that when unplugging the iphone from the speakers one time, I shocked the unit, and it was strong enough to reset the computer. This was not good. Everything seemed to work just fine afterward, until I tried to use the interval heart rate setting on the unit. The unit would not adjust the speed anymore when my heart rate went above or below the heart limits I had set. Mind you, all of the other heart rate programs still worked just fine, and I don't know if this was a problem before the unit got shocked, as I had not tried it before then, but I wanted to report the problem as it occurred, not as I suspect. Of course, I suspect that the shock screwed it up, but I cannot prove that. Regardless, I called the company and the sent me out a new display right away and all is good.

There is a fitness system that comes with this that is nice, but while I will admit that it works well, I am happy just setting a target heart rate and going for an hour more than anything else. With regards to that though, I use a polar chest strap to monitor my heart rate. Polar makes a smaller and a larger unit (one has greater distance than the other). Make sure that you purchase a larger unit. The smaller one does not put out enough juice to get a reading from the display unless you are at the front 25% of the treadmill, and that is not how I like to run. With the larger unit, I can run in the middle of the treadmill and the system picks up my signal just fine. I would assume that the one that Lifespan sells is a stronger unit, but I don't own one, so I cannot report on that. Maybe they will read this and comment (hint).

Quality build, excellent features, excellent customer support, excellent customer focused business model, fast problem resolution. Buy it, ignore the other units, enjoy. It took me a year to decide on this unit, and I got more than I paid for on all levels!
