Walk for Heart Health

Program Goal — The goal of Walk for Heart Health is to help you be heart healthy, using the exercise workout programs included on your new LifeSpan TR3000 treadmill. The 30 Day program is simple to use, and can help you focus on your health and achieve health benefits to lower your risk of heart disease.

Using Your LifeSpan TR3000 — The 30 day Walk for Heart Health program is designed to effectively use the exercise programs on your TR3000 treadmill. For information on how to use each exercise program on the TR3000, refer to your owner's manual.

Physican's Consent — Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physician and obtain their consent. Walk for Heart Health was created by credentialed experts in the medical field however this program does not override the advice of your physician.

Target Heart Rate — Each workout in the 30 day exercise program includes target heart rate recommendations appropriate for the program fitness level you select. To calculate your target heart rate, go to our heart rate calculator.

Rate of Physical Exertion (RPE) — RPE is your own assessment, on a scale from 0 to 10, of how hard you perceive yourself to be working based on how you feel during your workout. Click here to learn more about RPE.

Warm Up — Before beginning any exercise workout listed in the Walk for Heart Health program, do a 5 minute warm-up. The warm-up should consist of rhythmic, aerobic exercise or movement. You may certainly do your warm-up on your treadmill, just be sure to ease into your warm-up starting out at a very slow and easy pace and gradually increase the exercise effort until you have warmed-up for at least 5 minutes. You may then stop and do some light stretching to further prepare your body for your exercise program.

Cool Down — At the end of any exercise workout listed in the Walk for Heart Health program, do a 5 minute cool down. The cool-down should consist of exercise that will gradually slow your body back down. You may do this by decreasing the speed and elevation of your treadmill exercise to allow the body to slowly return to its pre-exercise/resting level. Remember, your body actually trains and improves its physical fitness and conditioning "after" you have finished exercising and allow the body to rest and recover. Failing to cool down after a workout can significantly impact the body and prevent your body from reaping the full physical benefit of your workouts. A great way to measure if you have cooled down sufficiently after a workout is to take your resting heart rate 5 minutes after you have stopped exercising. If you heart rate has slowed back down to within 10 beats of its "pre-exercise" heart rate, you have cooled down sufficiently and you are doing workouts that are ideally suited to your current fitness level. If instead your resting heart rate 5 minutes after you have finished your cool-down, is still greater than 10 beats away from your pre-exercise resting heart rate, you may have done a workout that is too difficult for your current fitness level, you may be getting overtrained, working too hard, or not getting enough rest. Take a few days off and let your body fully rest and recover and then slowly return to your regular workout schedule.
