Standard Treadmill Desk Features
Step Counting: is a great way to measure and track daily levels of physical activity. LifeSpan treadmill desks include the exclusive “Intelli-Step” feature that tracks each step automatically. A similar feature is offered on our bike desk models, counting pedaling revolutions “revs” which provides an easy comparison to steps for office challenges and team competitions.
Safety Features: We understand the importance of safety – at home and in the workplace. And safety is always a top priority in the design of every product. Little things like interlocking our desks with our treadmills help ensure stability, limiting the maximum speed on treadmills to 4 MPH (the maximum speed can be user adjusted down to 2 MPH if desired FAQ), and stamping LifeSpan on the belt to show belt movement are all part of our treadmill desk solutions.
Then beyond the basics we include a proprietary feature "Intelli-Guard" on all our treadmills. This feature recognizes when you stop walking and automatically "Pauses" the treadmill to ensure that no one steps back on without recognizing the belt is moving.
Online Membership: Each product comes with a LifeSpan Fitness Club account. This account lets you set goals and track progress against those goals. You can set up teams and track team progress, monitor improvements to your health metrics and much more. The LifeSpan Fitness Club is supported by an online software product called the Interactive Health Partner (IHP). The IHP can be customized and branded with your company information and the IHP Team can provide you with coaching support, results reporting and more. Selecting the Right Treadmill Desk
There are a number of treadmill desk and bike desk options to select from when making the decision to add walking or pedaling into your work day. We recommend that you first select the desk or workstation option that best works for you. Choose from these three options:
DT-3 Works with Your Height Adjustable Desk: If you already have a standing desk, height adjustable desk or want to purchase a specific desk the DT-3 is likely the right option for you. The DT-3 is a treadmill base that fits with your existing or desired standing desk. It's compact, convenient, and has all of the features as our other Workplace Solutions™ consoles, including Bluetooth integration. When selecting a height adjustable desk, remember that a treadmill is approximately 4.5” of additional height above the floor so make sure the maximum height will support your needs plus 4.5”.
DT-5 Manual Height Adjustment Desk: This is a great option for individuals or small teams where height adjustment is infrequent. This sturdy desk includes padded arm rests and a conveniently located console that doesn’t occupy any of the desk space. The working surface measures 31” by 46.5” and height adjustments are made in 1” increments with 16” of total adjustments.
DT-7 Electric Height Adjustment Desk: Electric height adjustment is recommended option for multi-user environments including communal areas and public areas. It includes the same padded arm rests, integrated console and work surface as the DT-5 plus the addition of electric height adjustment. Height adjustment buttons are conveniently located directly above the console and the DT-7 includes memory support for 2 users.
All of our Workplace Solutions products are completely interchangeable so once you’ve selected the best desk/workstation option it’s time to select either our C3-Upright Bike or one of our three treadmill options:
C3-DT Upright Bike: This bike desk or cycle desk is the perfect option for people who prefer to “pedal and work” rather than “walk and work”. The C3-DT upright bike is designed to position you in an upright position while your arms rest on the desk without the need to lean forward. If your space limited, this upright bike is not larger than a standard office chair and can be rolled under the desk or out of the way when not in use.
TR800-DT Treadmill Base: Is the entry level walk and work option. It’s designed for up to 3 hours of average daily use and has a smaller walking surface than our other treadmill options; it is 18” by 52”. The TR800-DT is a great option for single users planning to add walking to their workday. (TR800-DT3, DT800-DT5, TR800-DT7)
TR1200-DT Treadmill Base: This is our most popular model. It includes upgraded components from the TR800-DT including a larger motor, upgraded walking belt and larger walking surface 20” by 56”. It’s the perfect option for single users who expect to do a lot of their work on the treadmill desk and for small teams expecting to walk up to six hours per day collectively. (TR1200-DT3, TR1200-DT5, TR1200-DT7)
TR5000-DT Treadmill Base: Designed specifically for situations where high use and low maintenance are required. While our other treadmill bases require periodic belt lubrication to keep the friction between the belt and deck low, the TR5000-DT offers a maintenance free belt/deck combination. Coupled with a 3 HP AC motor, the TR5000-DT is a workhorse designed to meet the high demands of today’s workplace and includes a ten hour per day usage warranty. (TR5000-DT3, TR5000-DT5, TR5000-DT7)
The result of being able to interchange our 3 desk options with 3 treadmill choices and an upright bike is a product line that gives you the best value for the dollar because you can select the combination that best works for you.
Walk and Work Treadmills
Designed from the "Ground Up" is a term we use to describe our Treadmill Desks. To define this term we need to first have a brief discussion on how treadmills work from a mechanical perspective.
Treadmills are designed with a drive motor that is connected to the front roller via a belt. The pulley on the drive motor is smaller than the pulley on the front roller to create a mechanical advantage. In other words, this allows the motor to spin multiple times around for every time the front roller spins. This works like the gears of a car. The higher the ratio between the front roller and the motor, the more power the motor can transfer to the treadmill belt and the easier it is for the motor to pull you, as a user, while you're walking.
LifeSpan Treadmill Desks Workstations are used differently than traditional exercise treadmills. The average treadmill desk user will walk between 1.2 and 2.0 MPH. As a result, treadmill desks need very high torque at slow speeds and they don’t need to reach running speeds at all.
This gives us the opportunity to modify the pulley ratio on our treadmill desks to create more power at low speeds to support hours of walking without overheating or adding stress to the motor and electronics.
This is only possible by reducing the maximum belt speed. The maximum speed on all of our treadmill desks is 4 MPH which you can adjust down to 2 MPH if preferred for safety reasons.
Deck Suspension: A good deck suspension reduces the impact on your knees and other joints as your foot hits the walking belt. LifeSpan treadmills use 3 independent dampeners on each side of the deck to hold the walking deck above the frame and absorb impact when your foot strikes the belt. If you plan on walking 10,000 or more steps a day, which we recommend, a good deck suspension will allow you to walk longer with less fatigue and without causing joint pain or injury. We also recommend using walking shoes with arch support and a soft sole to complement the benefits of the deck suspension.
